Karen Carbone is another of our local practitioners who have generously offered their expertise at no charge for 1-on-1 treatment sessions. These are intended as opportunities for people to try out integrative therapies they’ve been curious about but unable to take advantage of previously for whatever reason.
Therapeutic Touch is based upon the idea that human beings are energy in the form of a “field.” When you are healthy, that energy is freely flowing and balanced. In contrast, disease reveals itself as imbalance and disordered. The human energy field extends beyond the level of the skin and the Therapeutic Touch practitioner attunes herself to that energy using the hands as sensors.
A Therapeutic Touch treatment is a process that is always individualized and usually does not exceed 20 minutes in length. You do not need to disrobe. Physical touching is not required, even though the title suggests that. Essentially what occurs during a treatment is that I will begin by centering myself. Then I will pass my hands approximately 6 inches from your skin and assess the condition of your human energy field. From that assessment I can largely determine where there may be imbalances in the subtle body and will focus on those areas. The treatment or intervention may include rhythmic, sweeping motions around your body or sometimes holding my hands over a particular area for an amount of time to help balance or rebalance your field. I will then re-evaluate and end the session. It is helpful if the receiver is able to rest for a little while to help incorporate the treatment.
